Calibrating Your Watch for Accuracy
21.05.09
For everyone seriously interested in having the most accurate watch possible, people should look into watches that contain a time calibration signal. Watches that contain this include the Casio G-Shock and many others. If you find that you want your watch to produce the most accurate time, there are certain procedures you can undertake to ensure that your signal reception is as strong as possible. While many of these steps are general guidelines, they are particular to the G-Shock watch.
First, you’ll want to place the watch with the 12 facing towards the window. Make sure there aren’t any metal objects nearby to obstruct the procedure. Keep in mind that reception can be difficult to obtain under certain conditions including if the watch is inside a building or vehicle or near any household appliances. People should also be aware that signals can usually be more easily obtained at night. While the watch is undergoing its calibration, the watch shouldn’t be disturbed for several minutes. To that end, buttons shouldn’t be pushed and the watch shouldn’t be disturbed.
Become Your Own Coach
28.04.09
It’s no surprise that many professional athletes are extremely dedicated and focused individuals. They possess the ability to set rigid schedules for themselves, and more importantly, they possess the ability to maintain those schedules. If you are interested in pursuing a certain sport with that level of intensity and dedication, be aware that the coaches that are often commissioned can be extremely expensive. The training that often goes into competition is very costly in every way possible.
But if you are organized enough and want to succeed enough, it is possible to fulfill the role as your own coach. It will be more difficult, and your training process will probably go much slower than it would for others. But going in with that knowledge is half the battle. People will usually only throw their hands up and quit when obstacles are met unexpectedly. But having full knowledge of the difficulty ahead, make sure to write down your plan of attack and workout routine. Written goals are more likely to be realized. And invest in a high quality sport stop watch. Then you can track your progress down to hundredths of a second.
Sibling Rivalry
06.04.09
Sibling rivalry is rampant in my large family. With 4 brothers and 3 sisters, there’s no way everyone get’s along all the time. My youngest brothers are the most competitive. They are always trying to out do each other in some sport or game.
That’s why when they challenged each other to a foot race, we knew that we needed a stop watch. They were usually so close during these foot races that a stop watch was the only way to tell who the winner was. So we always make sure to have a stopwatch on hand to prevent any arguments that might occur.
Solar atomic watch
18.12.08
An atomic watch works as quartz watch and a radio wave receiver at the same time. When the atomic watch cannot receive the time signal, it goes back to a quartz watch so that the wearer does not lose track of the correct time for long. With the small antenna within the watch case, the watch provides the most accurate time because it is in synch with the country’s atomic clock.
There’s also solar atomic watch that works either on a battery or from solar energy. It sets itself when the battery is being changed, thus, there is no need to rewind the watch once more.
It’s About Time
02.10.08
I have a problem with getting places on time. This isn’t something new for me, if fact it’s been an issue for years. My Mom tells me I was born two weeks after her due date. Maybe it’s her fault. No really, I know it’s my problem. I was late for my second-grade ballet recital, and for my college graduation.
People have always known me to be tardy, and it’s embarrassing. In the past I tried using two alarm clocks and wake-up calls, but nothing worked. It wasn’t that I slept too late; it was that I just couldn’t seem to get out of the house on time.
As a joke my sister bought me two stop watches for my birthday this year. She said maybe I could use them to time myself getting ready in order to leave the house on time. I thought it would be an interesting experiment, so I tried it—and it actually worked, go figure! Anyways, I set the stop watches while I am showering, eating breakfast, and doing my hair and makeup. This way I know how much time I have. I turned 32 this year, and it’s about time I am on time!
Running Time
28.08.08
When I began running again, my heart almost burst. At least that’s how it felt like when I put my running shoes on and hit the pavement after a few minutes. So now I’m back to square one.
I just got a stop watch so that I can see how long it takes me to do a mile so that I can improve upon my time every chance I get. This mission is going to succeed because I have the right tools.
Benefits of a Stop Watch
25.07.08
Many different exercises are based on time. For example, a workout routine may suggest that you jog in place for three minutes. How would you know when three minutes are up? You could look at a clock, but that could pose some problems. Watching a clock, especially one without a seconds hand, will be fairly inaccurate. You’ll also have to keep glancing at it to know when to stop. If you look away, you may go well over your time limit. The best thing to use that solves all of these problems is a stop watch.
Stop watches use exact measurements of time. They also beep when time is up so that you don’t have to watch the clock. There are many different ways to use a stop watch, all of which are effective.
How Digital Stopwatches Work
10.07.08
Digital electronic stop watches are available which, due to their crystal oscillator timing element, are much more accurate than mechanical timepieces. Because they contain a microchip, they often include date and time-of-day functions as well. Some may have a connector for external sensors, allowing the stopwatch to be triggered by external events, thus measuring elapsed time far more accurately than is possible by pressing the buttons with one’s finger.
The first digital timer used in organized sports was the Digitimer, developed by Cox Electronic Systems, Inc. of Salt Lake City Utah (1971). It utilized a Nixie-tube readout and provided a resolution of 1/1000 second. Its first use was in ski racing, but was later used by the World University Games in Moscow, Russia, the U.S. NCAA, and in the Olympic trials.
